What Are Trouble Hands In Poker? |
Hands like KJ and A10 are what we deem as trouble hands. I don't call hands like A5 or K3 trouble hands, I call them trash and most players will generally fold them quickly (not all of course) but it seems that whenever you get two face cards together someone is willing to bet on them. While of course this phenomenon is highly profitable for your opponents it's not a good thing for your game or your wallet. The most astounding thing is that people will not only occasionally but indeed often call raises with these hands.
Calling a raise with KJ or A10 or even worse hands, is the surest way to go broke quickly. Terrible preflop play like this is a tragic habit because not only does it lead to terribly disadvantageous spots post flop but the opportunity to commit these grievous errors abounds; if all you wait for is a hand like K10 you will never have to wait long. Ultimately this is why most people play these hands... because they're tired of waiting.
Now this isn't to say these hands can never be played. If it's folded to you in late position, or folded to you except for Larry Limps Alot then yes you can open these hands up for a standard sized raise and against extremely aggressive players in a short handed game you can make significant profit playing these hands well, but in most games, against most players, it is not only foolish it is downright financial suicide to play these hands for a raise.
