  • How To Play Draws On The Flop In Texas Holdem

flop drawsBig draws on the flop are very exciting, possibly one of the most exciting aspects of poker. There are a number of types of big draws. There are straight flush draws, where you are drawing to a straight and a flush. There are flush draws, when you are drawing to a flush. Over card draws, when you are drawing to your high hole cards.

Draws can even be a favorite against made hands, for example your opponents bottom pair against your high card straight flush draw. The ultimate draw would be a hand like KhQh on a Jh10h10s board against 22. Here you can hit an ace, a king, a queen, a jack, a heart or a nine to win.  Now that is a lot of outs!  Half of the deck!

On the flop, in a multi way pot, or even heads up generally, it is important to pump the pot if you have a flush draw.  Since your hand is almost certain to be the winning hand if you hit, and you have close to a 50% chance of hitting it, you can see how profitable it is to raise with 3 players, let alone 6, because you are getting almost half of all the money that goes into the pot.

Another reason is that a flush is clearly visible if you hit it as there will be 3 of the same suit on the "board", and you are much less likely to get paid once these are present. With a straight they can easily be "disguised", so you may get "paid" once you hit the straight, although I personally like to bet in this situation when you are against few (3 or less) opponents.
