  • How To Play 2 7 Triple Draw

As in all lowball poker variations, the object of the game is to get the worst possible hand. But unlike most other lowball games, in 2-7 Triple Draw straights and flushes count against you and Aces are always high. As such, the very best hand in 2-7 Triple Draw is 2-3-4-5-7 unsuited. below you will find the rules of 2-7 Triple Draw.

    Blinds and Deal

As in most other poker games, play begins with mandatory bets called “blinds” made by the players in the first and second position relative to the dealer’s left. The player in first position places the “small blind” equal to half the minimum table bet; the player in second position makes the “big blind” equal to the full minimum bet. Each player is then dealt five cards, one player at a time. The cards are dealt face down and there are no exposed community cards.

The first player to act after the deal is the person to the immediate left of the big blind, since the players in first and second position have already placed their forced bets. This player has several options; he can fold (discard the hand), call (bet equal to the big blind), or raise; depending on the structure of the game, be it limit, pot limit or no limit, a raise must be at least double the big blind and can be any amount over that approriate to the table maximums.

    Discarding and Drawing

Once the first round of betting is complete, remaining players then decide to “stand pat” (draw zero cards) or discard one, some or all of their cards to be replaced by new cards from the deck (“draw”). Discarding begins with the player in first position relative to the dealer who announces his draw, places that many cards face down on the table and the dealer replaces them with an equal number of fresh cards from the deck. The round continues clockwise around the table until the last player either stands pat or draws. All discards are kept face down and set aside; they are not returned to the deck.

    Betting

Once every player remaining in the hand has had an opportunity to discard and draw, the next betting round begins with the player in first position. This player can check (pass his turn) or bet, and play continues to the next player who must respond to the action of the player in front of him. There are three rounds of drawing and discarding (hence the name “Triple Draw”) and four rounds of betting, in this sequence: The deal; first bet; first draw, second bet, second draw, third bet, last draw, last bet. In Triple draw poker there is no limit to the number of cards you can draw in any particular round.

    The Best Hand

The winner of every hand is determined at the end of the last round of betting when all remaining players reveal their cards, called the “showdown”. The last player to be called must reveal their cards first regardless of their position at the table; proceding clockwise from that position, players have the option to show or “muck” (throw away without showing) their hand and a winner is determined. Winning hands are determined from the top down, beginning with the highest card in each hand and working backwards. A 9-7-5-4-2 beats a 9-7-6-3-2 because the 5 in the first hand is lower than the 6 in the second hand. The bottom 2 cards in this example are irrelevant; the best hand was determined by the third card.
